The twelfth point of the BSA scout law is "A Scout is Reverent".
Abingdon United Methodist Church has been the proud chartering organization of Boy Scouts of America's (BSA) Troop 222 for over 50 years. Scouting is based on the principles of honor, integrity, and responsibility which are taught and learned through teamwork, leadership, and self reliance.
Unlike competitive sports programs, in Scouting everyone plays and no one sits on the bench. Scouting allows young men to test their skills and abilities. Scouting is open to all young men regardless of race, religion, national origin, or socio-economic background. We are blessed to have the opportunity to expand our mission with the Boy Scouts of America and look forward many more years working together to improve our church, community, and country.
BSA Troop 222 meets regularly in a dedicated troop room at the Church each Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the public school year and into the summer. Troop 222 is one of the biggest troops in the Overmountain District with almost 60 scouts, 40 leaders, and an active Executive Committee of 12 members who conduct fund raising, rank advancement, membership, administration, and other Troop functions.
Troop 222 has so many activities available that between five and ten scouts put on the rank of Eagle every year adding to the almost 150 Eagle scouts this Troop has produced in the 50+ years being a chartered organization of the Abingdon United Methodist Church.
